In the beginning there was light. Regardless of the sound that BLACK CRUCIFIXION created and the fact that we were probably the worlds most northern black metal band, the original idea of the band came together in a beautiful summer night, with the sun shining bright. We lived in the Arctic Circle, where during the summer the sun shines twenty four hours a day.

It was year 1991 and it took me and my friend Blacksoul only two weeks to book our first gig as support band in metal festival in the city of Oulu. The other bands playing were IMPALED NAZARENE, DEMIGOD, SENTENCED, BELIAL, AMORPHIS and BEHERIT. We played a set of four songs. Two covers, "In League With Satan" by VENOM and "Nightmare" by SARCOFAGO, and two own songs. We sounded terrible. Actually we sounded like the kids who could not play, that we were. The other bands were great, especially IMPALED NAZARENE with their blood weltering stage show, which made a huge impact on the audience. The singer MIKA was literally bathing in pigs blood, even so that he actually slipped on it. I videotaped their show and the recording still seems to circulate in the underground scene. Also our pitiful show was both taped on video and audio and due to tape trading some unfortunate metal fans around the world have had good laughs on our account.

Our line-up already had Sodomatic Slaughter on drums and he also played his farewell show with BEHERIT that night. As you can hear on some bootleg recordings, the two main incarnation of BEHERIT was in great shape that night. Not tight or scary, but that wasn't the point as their laidback style had an uncommon sense of relaxation in it. Even a sense of meditation. After that show BEHERIT main man Holocausto Vengeance moved to another town and started the next version of the band with new members.

After the gig the merciless winter of Lapland hit us, endless day turned into the twenty hour a night darkness, so we crawled inside and started writing new and better songs. In December I booked us into a studio and by January we had finished "The Fallen One of Flames" demo tape. Holocausto Vengeance was not member of the band, but a kind of a godfather who created the Intro and Outro for the tape. He also contributed the lyrics to "Flowing Downwards". The emphasis of BEHERIT members to the band was anyway smaller than it might seem from a distance. BLACK CRUCIFIXION was never a project of BEHERIT members. BEHERIT was just an inspiration and a help in the beginning. At the time I and Blacksoul were the core of BLACK CRUCIFIXION and were never members of BEHERIT. Both of the bands were ahead of their time, pioneers in search for the darkness in music. By the time DARKTHRONE released their black metal debut "A Blaze in the Northern Sky", we were already heading forwards. The "true black metal" came to an end as hundreds and hundreds of bands started painting their faces and wearing black jeans. So we did no more.

Were we true black metal? I'd say that we were true as fuck. And fake as hell. Fake because we surely were not the devils that we portrayed ourselves as. And true because this music came from our very hearts. And when our heart told us to evolve musically, we did and the result could be heard on the now sold out "Promethean Gift" mcd.

"The Fallen One of Flames" is metal from it's blackest era, concieved in the northern frost and darkness. We enjoyed the music and burned no churches. I hope you'll do the same.
