Warlock Moon interview orchestrated by Repulser, 2008. Questions answered by Ladon and Warlock.

1) Hails and thanks for doing this interview. Where did this madness all begin and what was the motivation to form Warlock Moon?

Well it was actually tryng to begin after my old band D.S.R. {Dead Shall Rise} somewhat disbanded for a bit after the murder of our drummer back in late 2003 {true fuckin' story too} i believe months passed as we were trying to reform with that rhythm section but to no avail, especially back then and even to now in this city of Toronto “ONterrible” finding those who can still appreciate and respect the “Old school or NO school” sound, mentality and way of life. It was sometime in mid/late '05 i believe, i met up with Ladon through a mutual friend, a bunch of us was over at his apartment one night when he broke out an old 4 track tape of homemade just fucking around recordings for the hell of it, there was one track in particular that really jumped out at me, reminded me of an old Darkthrone demo or something of that nature, and from there the wheels started turning, so i decided to throw the idea out there on hitting a studio and seeing what happens...Then finally, at the beginning of '06 the Slums was born at our first rehearsal...ONWARDS...

2) It is well known to those familiar with Warlock Moon that you are a two-piece band, although for a brief time you had a drummer to allow Warlock to manage only vocals. What are your thoughts on this in general, and do you see it advantageous to act as a two-piece?

I know that alot of people would probably say a two piece should just remain as a studio project instead of trying the whole LIVE thing as an actual band, i strongly disagree, yes it has been done, but not quite as often or enough, i think that people are just intimidated by the the whole idea of having less than 3 individuals on a stage, how it's gonna look and sound or something or other. WM maybe hopes to break a barrier in that case. I was never actually never meant to be the drummer for Warlock Moon, i have always been the front man for all my previous bands, to this day i still don't even want to consider myself as a drummer, i mean we did search high and low for someone to man the drums, fuck even on the “GAYBOARDS” {Braveboards}. We had a session member for a short bit and released a rehearsal tape with him on it and just myself on vocals. In the end, we just ended up deciding that Warlock Moon should remain as a two piece because in my mind i was only used to the idea of only fronting with vocals, realizing that the band really wasn't broken...so there was no point in even trying to fix it.

3) What is your opinion on the split release with Philippines thrashers Pagan Fire and how did you get in contact with this band initially?

Actually, i believe it was them who found us, through mutual people i guess...not really sure. The split release was basically tracks form our first 3 releases compiled as we didn't have any new material ready at the time. Thanx to “Total Death Records” for insisting on the release. Paganfire's style takes me back to '85/86 early slayer, possessed, repulsion...etc... it was a pleasure to share a split with them, cool bunch of guys too.

4) Even more obscure than your twisted act is Warlock's former band, Dead Shall Rise, of which I have a CD-r of the Incrusted demo, a killer hateful release by the way. What happened to this band and will DSR ever make a return?

Glad you enjoyed the demo, but unfortunately D.S.R. will never make a return, as i mentioned before, our original drummer suffered a pretty tragic death...he was probably the best drummer i have worked with in 10 years, D.S.R. had originally started out as a crust band then incorporated black/death metal elements. I've always thought of possibly in WM to cover D.S.R. song {Corpse Paint} one of my faves.

5) Known to only a few and true in your local scene is the infamous series of Hell House shows of which you performed many. Tell us some thoughts and memories of the Hell House days and what are your thoughts on the other bands that performed there?

The “Hell House” R.I.P. and all hail “The Mighty Keegan Irvine” the idea of Warlock Moon was for people to know we were a band, Keeg made that possible in many ways, one of which putting on true “underground” shows as such. The Hell House was a great open outlet...booze can...crack house...hole in the wall...whatever the fuck ya wanna consider it for bands/people/cats to let fucking loose, hang out, release the weeks/months tensions...the rituals were defiantly something to look forward to at the end of the month. Some of my fav memories aside from the cops showing up to just about every ritual...was the last show we played there...the slamming got pretty intense, people were falling over into/onto the drums, i ended up flying back off the throne away from the drum kit into the back room flat on my ass, and after about 10 seconds i just got back up and started playing again, loved it. Some of the coked-up weirdo's there reminded me of something out of The Cabinet of Dr. Calagari...fucking burning bibles...the giant gaping dripping hole in the middle of the ceiling with the WM banner covering it all up...oh and who could ever forget the burning of the BWBK shirt. I burned that fucker to the ground. Met alot of cool people there too, shared the basement floor with 2 great bands in particular your band Malaria...and your band again Nuclear Hammer.

6) No other band in the Toronto "scene" currently plays that style of raw, punk-is black metal that Warlock Moon does, in my opinion. What are your thoughts on the local black metal "scene"?

Crap, poser-ish, very pretentious, not impressed at all with opinions and attitudes. I don't want to sound high and mighty but i'm well in my 30's, been into the shit since '86, been playing in different bands since '93 {mostly punk rock} never had a phase...never a trend, jumped into one thing and pretty much remained, 1986-2008 NOTHINGS CHANGED. Seems like the “kids” of today are trying too hard to re-create an entire culture of the past and sorry to say, are failing miserably. None of them at this point could even say “been there done that” cause they haven't even scratched the surface, and i don't give a damn if you do sport a Beherit, Blasphemy or Burzum t-shirt. Just too much “professionalism” in this so called “scene” for me thanx. The youth of today defiantly are the generation that truly destroyed a culture of music and way of life that meant so much to a previous generation that created it, and that culture was called “Punk Rock”. The scene was raped with all that cutesy flare and shit...little pink skull faces, tight little cunts like Avril fucking Lavigne claiming to be the “princess of punk” and most of all by the fucking little Much Music/MTV/CFNY twinkie fucks. Punk does not belong in a corporate office, it belongs on the fucking streets... and should not by any means be radio and or parent friendly, punk rock plain and simple should be and IS a pure fucking threat! And the same will also will and IS becoming the demise of black/death, REAL TRUE metal in general. As for the whole NSBM part of it, i just laugh my ass of at them, absolute moronic idiotic beliefs to say the least, much like certain well known bands who have been around for 7 or 8 years but are too much of fucking poser wimps to play live due to FEAR of a certain “organization” thats been dead and buried under 8 or 9 years themselves. So here's some free advice... SHUT THE FUCK UP!

7) The "Slums of Israel" MCD is a devastating piece of black metal. Were you satisfied with the way it turned out?

Thanx again for that man, actually we were a bit more satisfied with the sound of this release than the first, we've always kept it raw as fuck, the way old school black metal should be, harsh, unpolished, and true to the form. it's all a matter of playing around with the proper levels and shit as you already know yourself, and i also think by then we discovered a thing called “bouncing tracks”...and thats all i'm gonna say on that one. That MCD did very well and also the one after that which was the “Death of... Rehearsal “Promo” cd, we got alot of good response, glad you enjoyed it.

8) On the subject of the aforementioned EP, do you have a message to send out to Israel that we should know about? : )

Hahahaha...well...for myself it's a very personal thing, it goes as far back as when i was in grade 10, which was a very long while ago, but thats another story/interview, since then i've noticed more of an escalation in the matter. “The Slums” is probably as political as WM gets when it comes down to that topic {for now that is}, i feel that some bands just do it for the sake of doing it cause maybe in this type of music it's just a cool thing to do or say, means nothing to them, an empty statement or threat coming form no experiences what so ever. But like i mentioned...for us, i can assure you...it's definantly personal.

9) What are the future plans of attack for Warlock Moon?

Well, for as long as WM has a lifeline, we're just gonna keep on doin' what we've always been doin'.
NO compromises, NO tolerance, NO politics, NO scene and always REFUSING to follow any trends...
Under the mystical...Warlock Moon.

10) That is all for now. Please send out any hails, curses, threats or otherwise messages that you wish. And if I may, ONWARD.......

Thank you very much for the kick ass interview man...i'm just sorry it took forever to get to...as i'm quite the procrastinator i'll admit. Once again all hail “The Mighty Keegan Irvine” and SKULL FUCKING METAL DISTRO, and of course always to Malaria and Nuclear Hammer, and finally to the long awaited Crucifixxx Sodomy and to all the real fucking maniacs that have come out to support us. FUCK OFF to all you wimpy NSBM twinkie poser fucks {it's obvious who you are} REAL TRUE black metal and punk is NOT for wimps or posers and speaking of which Inertia and all false promoters {once again pretty obvious who you are} can suck the big Nuclear Hammer. Always in support of all unsigned and one-man metal bands. ONWARDS TO THE SLUMS... Today, tomorrow...forever...the TRUE underground will always survive.

HELL HOUSE R.I.P.
